Domestic agreements
- Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) is a new $3.5-billion, 5-year agreement (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028), between the federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector.
International agreements
- Global Methane Pledge: Canada joined over 100 countries in supporting the Global Methane Pledge to work collectively towards reducing human-caused methane emissions by 30% below 2020 levels by 2030.
- UN climate change conference: Canada is a leader in international climate action and COP provides a forum for the Government of Canada to continue advancing progress on many initiatives, including, for example, sustainable agriculture.
- Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15): In 2022, Canada hosted COP15 in Montreal and ratified a new global framework to safeguard nature and halt and reverse biodiversity loss, putting nature on a path to recovery by 2050.
- Canada and the EU are working together to exchange ideas and best practices on a number of topics, including soil health, greenhouse gas emissions reductions in livestock, organic farming, better use of fertilizers and sustainable crop protection.
