Research Participant Program for International Students, Scientists and Experts

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Foreign Research Participant Program gives foreign students, scientists and experts an opportunity to contribute to research conducted at one of our research centres, and to learn about Canada’s approach to science-based knowledge and regulations.

Each year, we issue a call for proposals to our agricultural research scientists in order to identify and match their pre-approved projects with potential foreign research participants.

Based on the approved proposals, we send out a call for applicants to countries and international organizations which either already have an academic arrangement with the department, or for which scientific cooperation is a priority.

Interested applicants can communicate directly with the scientists to further discuss the research opportunity of their choice, before officially applying. All applications are subject to an approval process.

Successful foreign research participants sign a Research Participant Agreement that defines their roles and responsibilities, confidentiality, and intellectual property.
