Seeking new members for the Canadian Agricultural Youth Council

Members of the Canadian Agricultural Youth Council

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) Canadian Agricultural Youth Council is recruiting the next generation of leaders to share their personal experiences, unique perspectives, and innovative ideas to tackle issues from across the agriculture and agri-food sector.

Creative and outspoken young people ages 18-30 who have a passion for food and farming and enjoy working in a team to find solutions are invited to apply. If you have experience and knowledge of food and/or farming as a result of your upbringing, academic studies, volunteer work, current employment, or other life experiences, you may be interested.

You will meet regularly with Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and department officials to discuss what matters most to young people in food and farming. You will look for ways to overcome challenges facing youth. You will build a vibrant future for food and farming in Canada that reflects the values and aspirations of young people from coast to coast to coast.

Since it was established in 2020, the Youth Council has met to discuss topics including:

  • Sustainable agriculture and climate change,
  • Skills development and agricultural education;
  • Agricultural awareness and public trust;
  • Succession planning and intergenerational farm transfers;
  • Land acquisition and access to lending capital;
  • Rural vitality and farmer mental health;
  • Market diversification and competitiveness;
  • The digital shift and the future of agriculture.

During this unique career building opportunity, you will learn how policy and programming is developed at AAFC. You will expand your professional skillset and network.
