Survey on "Product of Canada" and "Made in Canada" labelling guidelines

The Government of Canada seeks industry feedback as it considers potential changes to "Product of Canada" and "Made in Canada" labelling guidelines. Have your say on proposed changes.

The use of “Product of Canada” and “Made in Canada” claims is voluntary. However, once a company chooses to make one of these claims, the product to which it is applied must meet the guidelines set out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

As an initial step in consultations, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) held a workshop in Ottawa in February 2019. The discussions helped to further define specific challenges with the current guidelines. Workshop participants came to a general agreement on potential changes to the guidelines that would enable industry to make greater use of the claims.

AAFC is now conducting a broader industry survey to validate the potential changes to the guidelines that were proposed by workshop participants. The survey is intended to gauge industry awareness of the current claims, and to determine whether the potential changes would increase industry's use of the claims.
