Important changes have been made to the Mandatory Isolation Support for Temporary Foreign Workers Program (MISTFWP):
- The program now has two streams
- 14-Day Isolation Period Stream
- 3-Day Hotel Quarantine Stream
The Mandatory Isolation Support for Temporary Foreign Workers Program (MISTFWP) is a $142-million program to help with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on food supply in Canada by assisting the farming, fish harvesting, and food production and processing sectors.
The program will assist Canadian employers with some of the incremental costs associated with the mandatory 14-day isolation period as well as costs associated with the 3-day hotel quarantine imposed under the Quarantine Act on temporary foreign workers upon entering into Canada.
The MISTFWP offers support under two separate streams
- 14-Day Isolation Period Stream
- 3-Day Hotel Quarantine Stream
14-Day Isolation Period Stream
The 14-Day Isolation Period Stream will continue to assist Canadian employers with some of the incremental costs associated with the mandatory 14-day isolation period imposed under the Quarantine Act on temporary foreign workers upon entering Canada.
Under this stream, the program will provide a maximum non-repayable contribution amount of up to $1,500 for each temporary foreign worker arriving between January 1, 2021 and June 15, 2021 for eligible costs associated with the mandatory 14-day isolation period.
The maximum non-repayable contribution amount is $750 per temporary foreign worker arriving June 16, 2021 and until the program ends on August 31, 2021.
Applications for the 2021 program year will be accepted until 6:00 p.m. EST August 31, 2021, as long as the order under the Quarantine Act is in force and the isolation protocol has to be followed, or until funding has been fully committed or until otherwise announced by the program.
The "mandatory 14-day isolation period" in the context of MISTFWP refers to the 14-day quarantine period imposed on persons arriving to Canada from abroad under the Quarantine Act.
