The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food is responsible for recommending Governor in Council appointments to five different entities. These entities perform a variety of different functions.
Canadian Dairy Commission
The Canadian Dairy Commission is a federal Crown corporation. Funded by the federal government, producers and the marketplace, the Commission strives to balance and serve the interests of all dairy stakeholders - producers, processors, further processors, exporters, consumers and governments. Under the Canadian Dairy Commission Act, the Commission's legislated objectives are to provide efficient producers of milk and cream with the opportunity to obtain a fair return for their labour and investment, and to provide consumers of dairy products with a continuous and adequate supply of dairy products of high quality. As a central facilitator for the Canadian dairy industry and administrator of national dairy programs, the Commission works closely with industry stakeholders represented by organizations such as the Dairy Farmers of Canada, Dairy Processors Association of Canada, Consumers' Association of Canada and provincial milk marketing boards and agencies.
The governing board of the Commission consists of three part-time members who are appointed by the Governor in Council.

Canadian Grain Commission
The Canadian Grain Commission is a federal government agency responsible for regulating Canada's grain handling system and certifying the quality, safety and quantity of regulated Canadian grain export shipments. The Canadian Grain Commission is responsible for delivering grain quality assurance programs and oversees quantity assurance at export; carrying out scientific research to understand all aspects of grain quality and grain safety and to support the grain grading system; and protecting the rights of Canadian grain producers when they deliver their grain to licensed grain handling companies and grain dealers.
Three full-time commissioners - appointed by the Governor in Council - head the Canadian Grain Commission and set the organization's direction, establish policy, and administer and enforce the Canada Grain Act.

Farm Credit Canada
Farm Credit Canada is Canada's largest provider of business and financial services to farms and agribusiness. The purpose of the corporation is to enhance rural Canada by providing specialized and personalized business and financial services and products to farming operations, including family farms, and to those businesses in rural Canada, including small and medium-sized businesses, that are businesses related to farming. The primary focus of the activities of the corporation is on farming operations, including family farms. Founded on providing lending services to primary producers, Farm Credit Canada's depth of support extends to financing businesses that provide the inputs to and outputs from primary production.
The President and Chief Executive Officer is a full-time Governor in Council appointment.
The Board of Directors represents the Canadian agriculture and business community. The Board consists of part-time members who are appointed by the Governor in Council.

Farm Products Council of Canada
The Farm Products Council of Canada works on behalf of the Government of Canada to help all Canadians have affordable and continuous access to the foods they need while maintaining fair market prices for the farmer.
The Council's specific role is to provide oversight of the national supply management agencies for poultry and egg, as well as to supervise national promotion and research agencies for farm products.
The Farm Products Council of Canada, headed by a full-time Chairperson, is composed of up to seven part-time Members appointed by the Governor in Council.

Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal
The Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body that provides impartial reviews of administrative monetary penalties issued to any person by federal agencies in relation to agriculture and agri-food. The Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal operates in a court-like fashion to hear cases brought forward by person(s) who have been charged under the Administrative Monetary Penalties Act, for bringing animal or plant products into the country without permission or where a producer, transporter or handler of animals or plants in Canada fails to meet set standards for humane transport, animal identification and disease prevention.
In this regard, the Tribunal plays a key role in ensuring a fair and efficient administrative monetary penalty system. The Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal's vision is to safeguard the integrity of the administrative monetary penalties system used by federal agencies to ensure compliance with agriculture and agri-food statutes. The Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal seeks to balance the rights of Canadians receiving such penalties with the responsibilities of federal regulators who issue the penalties to protect human, animal and plant health so as to enhance the vibrancy and sustainability of Canadian agriculture.
The Tribunal consists of a full-time and a part-time member who are appointed by the Governor in Council.
