Middle East and Northern Africa market summary

MENA recorded imports of Can$104.5 billion in 2020, and Canada's share was 1.7% or Can$1.73 billion.

MENA is a net importer of agri-food and seafood products. In 2020, MENA's agri-food and seafood trade deficit was Can$49.7 billion. MENA's agri-food and seafood imports decreased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of −10.12% from 2016 to 2020.

Top supplying countries to MENA were Brazil, the United States, Russian Federation, Ukraine and India. The top five imports to MENA from 2016 to 2020 were wheat and meslin, maize or corn, soya beans, rice and food preparations.

In 2020, Canada had an agri-food and seafood trade surplus of Can$1.2 billion with MENA. MENA's agri-food and seafood imports from Canada have decreased by a CAGR of −12.71% from 2016 to 2020. Top imports from Canada were wheat and meslin, dried leguminous vegetables, tabacco and soya beans.

MENA is a net importer of agri-food and seafood products. In 2020, MENA's agri-food and seafood trade deficit was Can$49.7 billion with imports valued at Can$104.5 billion, and Can$54.8 billion in exports. MENA's agri-food and seafood imports decreased at a CAGR of −10.12% from 2016 to 2020. In 2020, Canada had an agri-food and seafood trade surplus of Can$1.2 billion with MENA.

MENA's top agri-food and seafood imports in 2020 wheat and meslin, maize or corn, soya beans, rice and food preparations. Top supplying countries were Brazil, the United States, Russian Federation, Ukraine and India. Imports from Canada have decreased by a CAGR of −12.71% to rank 19th overall.

In 2020, Canada ranked 1st for Dried Leguminous Vegetables, 4th for wheat and meslin and 6th for soya beans import supply into MENA among global trade partners, supplying MENA with Can$1.3 billion worth of these three commodities. Other Canadian agri-food and seafood products imports MENA include frozen beef and milk and cream. Milk and Cream and Live Bovine Animals were the fastest growing imports from Canada Milk and Cream growing around twice its 2016 amount and Live Bovine Animals growing almost 6 times it's 2019 amount. In 2020, Canada's import supply gap to MENA was Can$102.8 billion, which fell by a CAGR of 10.0% between 2016 and 2020.
