Step 2. Who is eligible
Eligible applicants under the AgriAssurance Program: Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Component are for-profit organizations operating in the agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector, including fish and seafood, which may include:
- businesses and corporations
- co-operatives
- Indigenous groups
Small and medium-sized enterprises must:
- be directly involved in growing harvesting, processing or otherwise transforming or consolidating their products
- have up to 250 employees
- have annual revenues below $50 million
- be independently incorporatedFootnote 1
- have completed market research
- be export and market readyFootnote 2
All eligible applicants must be legal entities capable of entering into legally binding agreements.
Eligible applicants must also meet the principles and criteria outlined in the Applicant Guide, such as:
- providing a minimum of 50% of the funding towards eligible costs
- total Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada funding requested for a project must be no more than $50,000. If you have multiple funding projects within the program, the total contribution towards all projects cannot exceed $100,000
Who is not eligible
While decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis, generally, the following groups are not eligible:
- third-party representatives, such as trading houses, export brokers, agents, or promoters
- individuals and sole proprietors
- not-for-profit organizations
- marketing boards
- governments and their agencies
