Potato fresh market stakeholder consultation

Current status: Open

Will close on January 30, 2026

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's (AAFC) National Potato Breeding team is inviting feedback from fresh market stakeholders on potential models of collaboration. With the National Potato Breeding program's recent modernization, building strong partnerships with industry is more important than ever to ensure that potato variety development effectively meets the needs of growers, marketers, and consumers, while strengthening private sector capacity.

Your insights and perspectives are essential. These consultations aim to shape and implement a new, effective commercialization model for the fresh market. We strongly encourage all stakeholders to participate, as your input will play a critical role in designing a framework that is practical, collaborative, and beneficial for the sector.

Who should participate

We are particularly interested in hearing from stakeholders who:

  • are a registered Canadian company
  • are willing to provide feedback to the AAFC team and regularly participate in discussions
  • have experience commercializing or marketing new potato varieties
  • have the capacity to carry out field trials (internal or external)
  • have an interest in developing Canadian varieties
  • are willing to participate in developing a collaborative framework that will require formal agreements with AAFC
  • are willing to protect intellectual property/plant breeders' rights
  • are connected to complete value chains
  • are willing to codevelop potato varieties with the AAFC
