Response to parliamentary committees
There were three reports tabled in Parliament, requesting a Government response from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, as described below. However, on September 11, 2019, Parliament was dissolved for a general election and all parliamentary activities were terminated.
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food
On May 28, 2019, the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food presented its seventeenth report, Support for Indigenous Peoples in the Agriculture and Agri-Food Industry. The Report focused on strengthening support for the Indigenous communities in the agriculture and agri-food sector and improving food security. The Committee requested a Government response to its five recommendations. On September 11, 2019, the dissolution of Parliament ended the Government's obligation to respond to all parliamentary requests.
On May 28, 2019, the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food presented its sixteenth report, Mental Health: A Priority for Our Farmers. The Report identified challenges that can contribute to mental health vulnerability and risk among farmers, producers, and ranchers and reviewed initiatives being taken and resources available to Canada's agriculture community across the country. The Committee requested a Government response to its 10 recommendations. On September 11, 2019, the dissolution of Parliament ended the Government's obligation to respond to all parliamentary requests.
The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry
On July 1, 2019, the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry presented its nineteenth report, Made in Canada: Growing Canada's Value-Added Food Sector. On February 27, 2020, the Senate adopted the Report and requested a Government response to its nine recommendations. The Government response was tabled on July 21, 2020.
