At Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), we take pride in what we do. We are an organization that is dedicated to serving the public. AAFC is committed to developing and delivering client-focused, results based programs and services. We continue to provide high quality services because we understand the importance of agriculture to our economy, communities, environment and health.
AAFC publishes service standards to highlight its commitment to transparent management, accountability for results, and citizen-centered service delivery. The Department strives to ensure that published information is transparent, meaningful and relevant to clients.
Service standards are a statement of the level of performance that Canadians can expect from AAFC. These service standards include turnaround times for general inquiries received via telephone and email, notifications of funding decisions, processing recipient claims, and providing sector analysis reports. AAFC is committed to achieving its posted target for each service standard under normal circumstances. AAFC’s 39 programs and 10 services have their service standards published on each program web page. Performance data are collected quarterly throughout the fiscal year and reported publicly, along with the Service Standards Annual Report, on the Service Standard page on the AAFC website.
Continuous improvement
AAFC met or exceeded targets for 152 out of 168 service standards (90%), covering 39 programs and 10 services. These results are an increase of seven percent from last year results. AAFC remains dedicated to continuously strengthening its service delivery through regular reviews to ensure the service standards remain meaningful and relevant to clients.
AAFC received client feedback on the relevance of its service standards and their impact on client’s business decisions. Clients indicated quicker service standard delivery times are required for approval or rejection notices to facilitate planning, preparation and cost analysis. Program managers are encouraged to review and assess the timelines to ensure they are timely, realistic and ambitious enough to meet the demands of their clients. As a result, several programs have realigned their service standards (that is, Youth Employment and Skills Program realigned their standard to 50 days and AgriAssurance: Small Medium Enterprise realigned their standard to 75 days) and work to identify further opportunities to improve their service standards and the client experience overall.Footnote1
AAFC is committed to achieving its posted targets under normal operational circumstances while seeking opportunities to enhance operational processes and better meet client needs.
