From April 11 to May 6, 2022, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) held a consultation to help guide the next steps towards achieving a healthier, more sustainable and more equitable food system.
Feedback received on a draft document summarizing current steps being taken across the food system in Canada to support the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Food Policy for Canada vision and priority outcomes, has helped shape Canada’s final National Pathways document. Submitted to the United Nations by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for the Government of Canada, this completes Canada’s contribution to the UN Food Systems Summit process.

Background
In the lead-up to Canada’s participation in 2021 UN Food Systems Summit events, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada hosted a series of Member State Dialogues and encouraged Independent Dialogues among stakeholders. Canada also issued statements at the Summit and pre-Summit events.
Views expressed and issues raised throughout the dialogue process were important in shaping this consultation draft of Canada’s submission to the Summit.
