Government of Canada scientists have access to a broad range of foreign research exchange programs funded either by Global Affairs Canada, Trade and Development or by foreign governments. These programs include:
- Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships offered by the Government of Canada, provides awards to the best post-doctoral researchers to conduct research for two years including the possibility for research abroad.
- Marie-Curie Actions offered by the European Union, provide opportunities for experienced scientists to conduct research from one to two years.
- Royal Society Grants offered by the Royal Society of the United Kingdom (UK), foster collaboration between UK and scientists overseas. The program is open to junior and confirmed scientists only.
- Canada-US Fulbright Grants for Canadian Scholars allow Canadian scientists, scholars, teachers and independent researchers to conduct research, lecture or enroll in formal academic programs in the US for up to one year.
- Sciences without Borders (SwB) Special Visiting Researcher is a program offered by the Government of Brazil to Canadian senior researchers for up to three months each year over two to three years.
- Foreign Government Awards (FGA) - Mexico is a program offered by the Government of Mexico to Canadian graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. A number of scholarship options are available, including up to one year of funding for post-doctoral research. Canadians must apply in Spanish to one of the institutions listed on Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship Program for Foreigners website.
- Endeavour Executive Fellowship offered by the Government of Australia, supports short academic professional development exchanges lasting between one and four months.
