Canada is the 6th largest importer of agri-food and seafood products in the world after the European Union (EU), the United States (U.S.), China, Japan, and United Kingdom (UK). Canada recorded imports of Can$52.1 billion in 2019.

Canada is a net exporter of agri-food and seafood products. In 2019, Canada's agri-food and seafood trade surplus was Can$16.2 billion. Canada's agri-food and seafood imports increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.6% from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019, the top five agri-food and seafood suppliers to Canada represented Can$40.3 billion or 77.3% of total imports. Canada is largely dependent on agri-food and seafood imports from the U.S., which have been steady while imports from other countries have increased in value and market share. Other top suppliers to Canada are the EU, Mexico, China, and Thailand. The top five imports to Canada from 2015 to 2019 were wine, baked goods, food preparations, coffee, and pet food.

Canada is a net exporter of agri-food and seafood products. In 2019, Canada's agri-food and seafood trade surplus was Can$16.2 billion. Canada's agri-food and seafood imports increased at a CAGR of 2.6% from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019, the top five agri-food and seafood suppliers to Canada represented Can$40.3 billion or 77.3% of total imports. Top supplying countries were the U.S., the EU, Mexico, China, and Thailand. Top five imports to Canada were wine, baked goods, food preparations, coffee, and pet food.

Agri-food and seafood imports from the U.S. were steady between 2015 and 2019, increasing by a CAGR of 0.9%, with a market share of 55.1%. However, Canada is increasingly sourcing imports from other countries as market share of imports from the U.S. fell by 3.9% between 2015 and 2019 and shares of imports from elsewhere grew, notably Mexico, China and EU countries. This trend is also evident in Canada's import supply gap, which indicates that imports, minus from the U.S., have grown by a CAGR of 4.9% between 2015 and 2019. Among Canada's top fifteen imported products, imports from the U.S. dominate but have largely fallen whereas imports from other countries have increased.
