Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) will help to develop and implement farming practices to tackle climate change. By developing, evaluating, adopting, and surveying agricultural technologies and practices, ACS is focused on sequestering carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and delivering environmental benefits.
Programs
There are two programs available under ACS to support you to take action on climate change, each in a different way.
You can take part in both programs, but not on the same fields at the same time.
Whether you’re ready to adopt proven practices now or want to help shape the next generation of solutions, both programs can improve soil health, reduce emissions, and strengthen your farm’s bottom line over time.
ACS – Living Labs
This 7-year program brings together farmers, scientists, and other sector partners to co-develop and test beneficial on-farm practices to tackle climate change.
Living Labs is right for you if…
- you want to be more hands-on in shaping the future of farming
- you want to work directly with researchers and other partners to co-develop, refine, and improve practices under real farm conditions
- you want to try new approaches, adjust them over time, and help build a better understanding of what works best in your region
- you enjoy experimenting, sharing insights, and being part of innovation that can influence how others farm in the years ahead, while also exploring the economic benefits of these practices
ACS -On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF)
This program supports farmers to adopt beneficial management practices that store carbon and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
OFCAF is right for you if…
- you’re looking for funding to help you start adopting proven, ready-to-use beneficial management practices on your farm
- These are well-established practices with known environmental benefits, and you’ll work with an agricultural professional to develop or confirm an adoption plan that works for your farm
OFCAF helps you take action with confidence, reducing emissions, improving soil and pasture resilience, and often lowering input costs like fertilizer, fuel, or feed. It’s a practical way to invest in changes that can pay off year after year, while contributing to broader climate goals across Canada.
Working Together
ACS is a program under the more than $4 billion Natural Climate Solutions Fund. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is partnering with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to develop projects that invest in natural climate solutions, including NRCan's 2 Billion Trees program and ECCC's Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund. These solutions will contribute to meeting Canada's greenhouse gas reduction targets and provide benefits towards the well-being of all Canadians.
